Fighting the climate emergency

To minimise the emissions generated by the event, a number of sustainable measures will be implemented:

  • Promotion of sustainable mobility
  • 1B1V’ initiative (One ticket, one glass): In the Expo area, attendees will be able to exchange a public transport ticket dated on the days of the event for a reusable cup.
  • Use of efficient vehicles by the organisation.
  • Efficient sports facilities: use of renewable energy sources, efficient lighting systems and low-consumption technologies in the infrastructure of the event.

Move in a sustainable way

Pontevedra, Low emisions area.

All vehicles can enter the urban area of Pontevedra, regardless their environmental label, without time restrictions or tolls, as long as they are necessary for the normal operation of the city. Practically the entire urban area of the city has been subject to traffic reduction measures for years, so it is an exception to the restriction on the entry of vehicles that applies to all municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to improve air quality.

If you want to join this commitment, choose more sustainable mobility options:

In Pontevedra, your feet are undoubtedly the best means of transport, walk around Pontevedra!

And if you can't walk, cycling is another great option in this city! https://ok.pontevedra.gal/es/la-bici-aliada/

If you can't walk or cycle, then opt for public transport, an alternative with a lower environmental impact than travelling in private vehicles.

Carbon footprint

According to the IDAE, electric modes of transport are the most interesting from the point of view of associated CO2 emissions (*): the electric car has emissions in the order of a third of its thermal counterpart (petrol or diesel) and the metro or AVE are ahead of the urban or intercity bus with CO2 emission reductions of close to 30-40% respectively. If we compare the AVE with the plane, the savings are close to 90%. The car used individually is very intensive in CO2 emissions, although when its occupancy rate increases to 3 or more passengers, the ratio of emissions per passenger-km can be very close to or even lower than the collective thermal modes (bus). The pedal-assist electric bike is by far the vehicle that generates the least impact.

(*) For electric modes, the CO2 emissions associated with the generation of the electricity consumed in their use are considered, although at the point of use they do not generate polluting emissions or CO2. In addition, they generate a significantly lower acoustic impact than their thermal counterparts.

Calculate your Carbon Footprint: Multiply the km traveled from your point of origin to Pontevedra according to the emissions indicated in the image.

Emission offsets
In addition, the Pontevedra City Council will carry out a tree planting once the event is over and the calculation of CO2 emissions generated by the competition is done, contributing to make the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Pontevedra a Carbon Neutral Event.

Join the change! Move in a sustainable way and participate in the carbon offset planting.
